An Ethiopian Federal Police delegation led by H.E. Dr. Tamirat Mulugeta, President of the Ethiopian Police University, participated in the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum held in Lianyungang, China.
The forum, which opened on September 7, 2026, brought together representatives from over 45 countries to strengthen international cooperation in public security and law enforcement. The Ethiopian delegation engaged in various sub-forums and cooperation platforms focused on police education and training, cybercrime prevention, and collaboration between the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) and China.
During the event, participants reviewed the forum’s annual performance, the Global Security Index, and the 2026 operational overview. Key resolutions were adopted to enhance international law enforcement cooperation and support global peace and security initiatives.
Ethiopia also participated as a founding member of a new global network established to strengthen international cooperation against cybercrime, joining representatives from more than 45 nations.
On the sidelines of the forum, the delegation toured exhibitions showcasing police technologies, equipment, and security solutions from leading Chinese companies. They held discussions with company executives regarding technological cooperation and potential investment opportunities in Ethiopia.
During these engagements, Dr. Tamirat Mulugeta expressed appreciation for China’s continued support of the Ethiopian Police, particularly in professional training and capacity building. He invited Chinese security technology firms to explore opportunities in Ethiopia, highlighting the country’s strategic position as the seat of the African Union and a major diplomatic hub in Africa.
The participating Chinese companies presented their products and expressed strong interest in strengthening ties with Ethiopian law enforcement institutions, as well as exploring operational opportunities in the country.
As part of the visit, Dr. Tamirat paid an official visit to the People’s Public Security University of China, where he was received by the institution’s leadership. He delivered remarks at the Police Education and Training Sub-Forum hosted by the university and discussed expanding collaboration in police education, training, research, and professional development.
Additionally, Dr. Tamirat met with Ethiopian police officers currently pursuing scholarship studies in China. The meeting offered an opportunity to discuss their academic experiences and underscore how international training contributes to enhancing the overall capacity of the Ethiopian Police.
